Louise Brown

Visual artist

Louise Brown (born Edinburgh, 1971) is a visual artist who graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1993 with a degree in Environmental Art. Her early practice centred on performance and video art, with work shown across Europe and the United States. In 1996 she established a video production business, working extensively within the creative industries and later with youth agencies. From 2003, her work with organisations including the YMCA and North Lanarkshire Social Work saw her develop and lead Video Interactive Guidance techniques, using creative practice as a tool to support young people with offending behaviour.

Alongside this, Louise began teaching Art & Design and Photography in secondary schools in 2007, a role she continues on a part-time basis. In 2019 she returned to painting, renewing a long-standing engagement with portraiture while expanding her focus to include pets, wild birds, and more recently still life compositions. These works elevate everyday, often overlooked subject matter through a loose realist approach, combining observation with warmth and quiet narrative. Louise has recently exhibited and sold work at the Glasgow Art Club and the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. Her move to the Isle of Bute in September 2025 marks an exciting new chapter, offering fresh influences and opportunities for her evolving practice.
